How Amanda Weekends in Flagstaff: Coffee Shops, Red Rocks & Stargazing Vibes

Wander Flagstaff!

There’s something about Flagstaff that really clicks with me — it’s this mix of intellectual curiosity and small-town soul. You’ve got the stars overhead, mountains nearby, and tucked-away coffee shops that feel like second homes. My weekends aren’t about doing everything — they’re about slowing down, finding beauty in the details, and letting the day guide me.

Breakfast is always a little adventure of its own. I try to stop somewhere new each weekend — sometimes it’s Macy’s for a classic local vibe and a killer soy chai, other times it’s Late for the Train where I can grab a scone, journal a little, and eavesdrop on conversations about mountain bikes or star clusters. No matter where I end up, it’s my favorite slow moment of the day.

Let the Day Lead: Amanda’s Flagstaff Way

From Red Rocks to the Stars — A Perfect Day in Flagstaff

On Saturdays, I usually drive down to Sedona for a hike. The red rocks have this quiet energy that I never get tired of. I like trails with views — Cathedral Rock or Soldier Pass are my go-tos. Afterward, I’ll grab lunch at Salsa Brava back in Flag. Their pineapple habanero salsa is next level, and I always leave with leftovers.
Dinner on Saturday night is usually something cozy and warm. If I’m feeling a little adventurous, I’ll head to Delhi Palace. Their paneer tikka masala is chef’s kiss, and I always leave full and happy. It’s quiet, friendly, and the kind of place where you can take your time.

Once the sun sets, I head up to Lowell Observatory. There’s nothing like seeing Saturn’s rings or catching a meteor streak overhead. It’s humbling in the best way — you realize how small we are, and somehow that’s comforting. If they’re doing a special program or telescope viewing night, I’m definitely there.

Sundays in Flagstaff: Slow Mornings, Local Flavor, Lasting Moments.

Sundays are for grounding. I start with the Flagstaff Community Farmers Market – picking up fresh bread, wildflower honey, maybe a bouquet of something weird and wonderful. There’s live music, kids dancing in the grass, and that collective vibe of people who just love this town.

After that, I like walking through downtown – popping into Bright Side Bookshop, Rainbow’s End, or whatever local shop catches my eye. It’s the kind of morning that unfolds slowly and softly, just the way I like it.

For lunch, I usually keep things casual and grab a slice from Fratelli’s Pizza. It’s quick, local, and the crust is always perfect. Sometimes I’ll take it to-go and eat in the park with a book in hand.
If I’m meeting friends for dinner, we’ll usually go to Fat Olives. Wood-fired pizza, fresh mozzarella, and always a good conversation. It’s the perfect way to close out the weekend before Monday takes over.

Amanda’s Local Secret:

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape, head out to Lake Mary just before sunset. The golden light reflecting off the water, framed by pine trees and distant peaks, is unreal — especially in late spring through early fall when the water levels are up and wildlife is most active.
