How Emily Weekends in Flagstaff: With the Boys, a Stroller, and Snacks on Deck

Tee Time & Togetherness!

I’ve lived in Flagstaff for a while now, and as a mom of two boys, I’ve figured out which places are fun, easy, and actually doable with little ones in tow. Whether you’re visiting or new to town, here’s how I’d recommend spending a weekend in Flagstaff with your family. It’s a mix of local favorites, outdoor adventures, and a few spots for us parents to unwind too.

Start your Saturday with breakfast at Mike and Rhonda’s The Place. It’s classic, no-frills, and always full of locals. The kids can share a giant pancake the size of their heads, and I always go for a skillet and coffee. Service is fast and friendly, which makes a huge difference when your toddler’s already asking to go to the park mid-bite.

From Tee to Table: How I Do Flagstaff Weekends

Emily

A day full of smiles, from wildlife to lunch time.

After breakfast, make the short drive out to Bearizona in Williams. It’s a hit every single time. You drive through and see wolves, bears, and bison right outside your car window — which is perfect for toddlers who can’t sit still in public. Then the walk-thru section has smaller animals, otters, a petting zoo, and spots to grab snacks or lunch. We easily spend a few hours there without anyone melting down.

Back in Flag, we love grabbing lunch at Mama Burger. It’s super casual and fast — they’ve got a great grilled cheese and milkshakes for the kids, and I always go for their green chili burger. Plus, there’s outdoor seating if the weather’s nice and the kids need room to wiggle.

Family traditions by day, local flavor by night.

In the afternoon we take a mellow walk, through Buffalo Park. Sometimes we bring scooters, sometimes it’s just a slow walk with the stroller. Dinner is usually pizza at NiMarco’s. It’s easy, familiar, and always a crowd-pleaser. We sit outside, order a big pie, and the boys love watching college kids and families come and go from downtown. They usually end the meal with a root beer float, which has kind of become our tradition.

Now — for the parents. On weekends when it’s been a long one and we need a breather, the boys stay with Grandma for a few hours, and my husband and I head to Collins Irish Pub. It has this fun downtown energy that makes us feel like we’re actually out. Whether we’re catching a game, playing a game of pool, Skee ball, or just sitting at the bar and catching up — it’s the perfect grown-up reset.

Where Sundays are made for family.

Sunday morning, we keep things slower. Breakfast at Tourist Home All Day Café is always a treat — great food, strong coffee, and a cute little patio where the boys can wander a bit while we eat.

After that, we usually head over to Levitate, the adventure park in Flagstaff. It’s the perfect spot to let the kids burn off some extra energy while we relax and watch them explore. It’s a fun and active way to wrap up the weekend before the new week begins.

Emily’s Local Secret

When the kids start begging for something sweet (and let’s be real—you want it too), head to Mozelle’s Downtown Bakery. This charming little spot is packed with irresistible mini cakes, cupcakes, and cookies that are totally worth the sugar rush.
